Remove the rear section of the centre console. The handbrake cable consits of two sections, a right and a left hand section, which are linked to the lever by an equaliser plate. Each section can be removed as follows.
1. Slacken the handbrake lever adjuster nut to get maximum free play in the cable and disengage the cables from the handbrake lever plate.
2.Jack up the rear of the vehicle and support it with axle stands. (DON'T FORGET TO CHOCK THE FRONT WHEELS!)
3.Remove the exhaust heat shield to allow access to the front end of the handbrake cables.
4.Prise of the retaining clip and free the cable from it's guide on the underside of the fuel tank.
5.Free the front end of the cable from the body, then working back towards the fuel tank free from further retaining clips as you go.
6a. DRUM BRAKES
On models with drum brakes, remove the rear brake shoes from the relevant side, release the retaining clips then free the cable from the brake backplate , and remove from vehicle.
6b. DISK BRAKES
On models with disk brakes, release the cable end fitting from the lever on the brake caliper, and remove the cable itself from the support bracket
To refit just follow the guide in reverse.
Hope this is of some use.
